Abstract
According to Oxford Dictionary (1983 p. 426), speech is a formal talk that a person gives to an audience. Speech is one of the ways for people to express their minds or ideas to share knowledge, information even do brainstroming. Sometimes some speeches are written with complicated sentences therefore speech needs deeper comprehension. Consequently, speech also needs much time to be analyzed and understood carefully. This research limits the study only about person deixis found in Obama’s speech script. It is the interesting object to be analyzed linguistically because in its usage, person deixis is not only addressed to the singular objects, but also some of them are used to address the plural subjects. Regarding to context-dependent on linguistic field, the speaker intends to use it for certain purposes. Therefore, some deictic expressions (like person deixis) does not only point the person as it is. Therefore, by analyzing person deixis that are found in Obama’s speech script, his intention can be interpreted.
