Abstract
In this study, we studied the ability of β-Calcium Pyrophosphate to absorb organic compounds to purify peat water. β-CPP has been obtained from Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) as CaCO3 source synthesized from CO2 captured from industrial flue gas. PCC can be used as a cheap and environmentally friendly source of CPP while it can reduce air pollution. β-CPP was synthesized by the microwave-assisted method. The synthesized CPP was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) studies. The material was obtained at a calcination temperature of 900ºC, which corresponded to the XRD peak standard (ICSD 01-071-2123). The FTIR spectrum showed the presence of absorption bands at wave numbers 726, 1187 and 1211 cm-1 indicating the characteristics of Ca2P2O7. From the XRF data, it was found that Ca/P ratio of β –CPP to be 1.89. SEM showed that the surface of -CPP after clarification was spherical or slightly smoother than β-CPP before purification, and the EDX showed a stoichiometric comparison of Ca/P elemental composition similar to Ca/P β-CPP. The ability of β-Calcium Pyrophosphate (CPP) as an adsorbent of organic compounds in peat water was found to be optimum at pH 2, contact time 0.5 hours, and a mass of 2 grams with an adsorption capacity of 40.345%.
