Abstract
This research discusses about repair sequence in a Caught in Providence season 3 episode 1. This research aims to find the type of repair, sequence of repair, and the function of repair used by the speakers in courtroom. Data analysis is gathered by downloading the video from YouTube. After that, the video is observed and everything related to type, sequence, and function of repair is noted. The data is analyzed by using conversation analysis approach. The theory of repair proposed by Schegloff, Jefferson, and Sacks (1977) is used to analyze the type and sequence of repair. After that, the function of repair is analyzed by using the theory from Zhang (1998). The result of data is presented descriptively. Based on this research, there are 17 repairs that is used by the speakers in Caught in Providence season 3 episode 1. The type of repair dominant used by speakers is self-initiated self-repair. After that, the most used sequence of repair is same turn as trouble source. Afterwards, the most used function of repair is abandonment.
