ABSTRACT The traditional practice of Training pig-tailed macaques to pick up coconut fruit provides an understanding of how cognitive abilities improve along with the training process. Research on training method of pig-tailed macaque (Macaca nemestrina Napier and Napier, 1967) as traditional coconut pickers was conducted in September-December 2020. This study aims to determine the methods applied in training and media sentiments regarding the use of non-human primates as coconut pickers. The results of this study were obtained through literature review with the Prisma framework method (Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis). From this research it is known that the training method used is the observational learning method, the trial-and-error method and the directional instruction method (reward and punishment). Media International has shown disapproval of the used macaque as coconut picker, while Indonesian media has shown no disapproval of used macaque as coconut picker. This study showed that the trainer trained macaque with a variety of methods and media opinions regarding the use of monkey power as coconut pickers.
