Abstract

Seagrass bed have several function for associated megabenthic fauna which has economic value such as habitat and food source. This study aims to know the composition and density of megabenthos, correlation and type of association between species of megabenthos and seagrass found in Bungus Coastal Padang. This research was conducted in the end of August to November 2020 at Bungus Coastal Padang include station 1 (Nirwana Beach) and station 2 (Cindakir Beach). The method used was survey method and the determination of sampling location used purposive sampling based on the area of seagrass. The observation and sampling used quadrat transect method with total area of 50x50 m2 and the size of quadrat frame was 50x50 cm2. The result shows that the composition of megabenthos at Bungus Coastal consist of six class (Bivalvia, Gastropoda, Holothuroidea, Malacostraca, Ophiuroidea, and Polychaeta) with 18 of total families, 33 total species and 643 total individuals. The total density of megabenthos at Bungus Coastal was 38.91 ind/m2 while at station 1 was 56.12 ind/m2 and station 2 was 36.97 ind/m2. The species of megabenthos that have the highest density and relative density in both research stations repsectively were Clypeomorus bifasciata (D=30.30 ind/m2, RD=77.88%). Seagrass beds at Bungus Coastal was composed only one species namely Thalassia hemprichii. There was a relation between seagrass cover percentage with megabenthos density, but the relation was categorize as weak (R2= 0.092). The correlation shows negative (-) relation that the higher seagrass cover, the lower density of megabenthos obtained. The association between species of Thalassia hemprichii and megabenthos produces 33 of association types which 7 species had an associations but have negative type while the other 26 species did not have an association. This indicates that the presence of megabenthos species was not influenced by the presence of seagrass species Thalassia hemprichii.
