Abstract
COMPETITION AND PREDATION OF PREDATOR Pardosa pseudoannulata Boes. & Str. AND Ophionea nigrofasciata Schmidt-Goble ON DIFFERENT DENSITIES OF BROWN PLANTHOPPERS (Nilaparvata lugens Stal) (HEMIPTERA: DELPACHIDAE) Abstract Pardosa pseudoannulata and Ophionea nigrofasciata are natural enemies that are often found in rice field. This study aimed to determine competition and predation of P. pseudoannulata and O. nigrofasciata in different densities of BPH. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 9 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments consisted of adult P. pseudoannulata and adult O. nigrofasciata singly and combination of two predators at several densities of BPH (10, 20 and 30). BPH used in this study were 2-3 instar nymphs. The result showed that there was no killing competition each predator. On the contrary, the combination of predator P. pseudoannulata and O. nigrofasciata was able to increase predation against BPH compared to when the two predators were alone. The predation of P. pseudoannulata and O. nigrofasciata at densities of 10, 20 and 30 BPH were 9,4, 18,6 dan 28,4, whereas when the two predators were alone, the predation of P. psedoannulata was 7,6, 15,8 and 21,8 and O. nigrofsciata were only 3,4, 6,6 and 9,4 at a density of 10, 20 and 30 BPH. The different BPH density did not affect the body weight of P. pseudoannulata and O. nigrofsciata. Keywords: Predation, Pardosa pseudoannulata, Ophionea nigrofasciata, Nilaparvata lugens.
