Abstract
Students are one of Andalas University‘s stakeholders. The performance of student is not only being concern the university management but also to users of university graduate. One of the performance indicators of education institution is students’ academic performance. Importance of academic performance is to measure competiveness of students. As career competition grows ever more fierce in the working world, the importance of students doing well in school has caught the attention of parents, legislators and government education departments alike. Academic performance might be influenced by a number of factors including stress, self-efficacy, self-confidence, and motivation. Geiser and Santelices (2007), Acato (2006), and Swart (1999) all argue that admission points which are reflection of the previous performance influence future academic performance. The Universities Admission Center (2006) reports that tertiary institutions in Austria have found that a selection rank based on a student’s overall academic achievement is the best single predictor of tertiary success for most tertiary courses. Student’s academic achievement is measured by the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). CGPA shows the overall student’s academic performance where it considers the average of all examination’s grade for all semesters during the tenure in university. Many factors influence students in achieving a high CGPA that reflects their overall academic performance.
