Abstract

The construction industry is one of the most dangerous industries in the world, with thousands of death happen on-site annually. In order to minimize accidents, safety policies and precise methods for engineering calculation are developed to improve the quality of safety in construction projects. The involvement of the project team in executing the system plays an important role in the outcome of the result, thus making Safety Leadership as one of the key factors in influencing the success of construction safety. In this research, the identification of safety leadership implementation is done by using the 7-5-9 Safety Leadership theory. This research assesses the involvement of the project leaders, namely the General Manager and Project Manager, in applying safety leadership aspects in their respective construction project. This study uses a quantitative approach which requires validity and reliability test, and the analysis was processed by using Rank Analysis and ANOVA. The questionnaires were filled out by the project team; Project Manager, Site Engineering Manager, Site Operations Manager, and Health, Safety, and Engineering Manager from two companies and anonymous individuals. The result of this research shows that the safety leadership aspects are well-implemented and meet the average standards. However, there is a notable difference between the results of General Manager and Project Manager index scores, with the General Manager always scores higher in the safety leadership implementation than Project Manager.
