Abstract

This study examines the translation procedure applied in translating taxation terms from English economic text into Indonesian. This study aims to identify tax terms and translation procedures used by the translator in translating tax terms. The data are taken from a book entitled Public Finance In Theory And Practice 5th Edition by Richard A Musgrave and Peggy B Musgrave and its translation Keuangan Negara Dalam Teori Dan Praktek Edisi Ke Lima published by Erlangga. Observation method is applied with the note-taking technique to collect the data. Translational identity method is used in analyzing the data. Then, informal and formal method is applied to present the analyzed data in this study. The theory proposed by Newmark (1988) is used to analyze the procedure of translation used from the source language to the target language. The finding shows that there are four translation procedures, which are transposition, couplets, transference, and literal translation. The most dominant procedure used in translating the taxation terms is transposition.
