Abstract
Smoking can harm health, as can cause lung disease, heart disease and even death. In 2010, Indonesia ranked third with cigarette consumption in the world. The highest smoking behavior in the city of Padang is in adolescents with an age range of 15-19 years. Smoking habit is caused by various factors, including parenting parents. Adolescence is a time of self, direction and guidance is needed by the child. This study aimed to examine the relationship between authoritative parenting parents smoking behavior of male students. The study design was cross-sectional. Entire population of male students at SMK N 1 Padang as students in 1168 and obtained a sample of 298 people taken by proporsionate stratified random sampling with a random number table. Data collection was done using a questionnaire interview on 20 October to 25 October 2014 at SMK N 1 Padang. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square test. The results showed more than half of respondents who smoked (72.8%), most parenting obtained respondent is very authoritative parenting (82.9%). The results of the statistical test showed no significant relationship between authoritative parenting parents smoking behavior of male students at SMK N 1 Padang with p = 0.001 (p <0.05). From the research that has been done to the school suggested to improve the supervision of the smoking behavior of students and parents can be a good example for teenagers.
