Abstract

Padang has the highest number of disaster in West Sumatra such as 155 occurence. One of those who feel the impact of the disaster is school. Students are the school component with the largest population. If a disaster occurs, students are the most vulnerable to being affected by disasters. Padang has few schools that are prepared for disasters. Therefore, in 2018 the government made Sekolah Cerdas Bencana (SCB) program, but this program is prioritized for schools in the red zone. The red zone is an area with the potential for a tsunami, but the green zone also has the potential for impact if a tsunami occurs. Therefore, both zones must be prepared in case of a disaster. This research was conducted in elementary schools located in one village in the red zone and one village in the green zone. The problem scope of this research is selected village has a preparedness index value of 0.44. The method used in this research is the LIPI / UNESCO. Data was collected through a questionnaire consisting of school, teacher and student, where the questionnaire consisted of questions based on five parameters used, they are knowledge, policies and guidelines, emergency response plans, disaster warning systems and resource mobilization. The results showed that schools in the red zone that had received a disaster preparedness program had a higher preparedness value than schools in the green zone. This is because this school has been assisted in making disaster risk assessments, disaster policies and procedures, and has formed a disaster preparedness team. So that schools are better prepared in the event of a disaster. The green zone also has the potential if a disaster occurs, it must also receive assistance from both the government and NGOs. Schools in this zone must take the initiative to ask for help independently from related parties. Besides that, the preparedness that needs to be improved are students. Recommendations given to improve student preparedness include providing disaster preparedness, improving students' speaking skills so that they can share information on disaster preparedness with other friends, before teaching preparedness to students the teacher must understand more about disaster preparedness, schools have documents about disaster preparedness. disaster preparedness and schools can work together with NGOs or the government to conduct preparedness simulations.
