Abstract

Cellulolytic bacteria are bacteria that are able to produce cellulase enzymes that can hydrolyze cellulose. Cellulolytic bacterial isolates in isolation from the forest floor of education and biological research. This research was conducted in February until June 2020 in the microbiology laboratory, Biology department, FMIPA Andalas University. The purpose of this study was to find cellulolytic bacterial isolates on the Biological Education and Research Forest floor and find out the characteristics of the cellulolytic bacteria found. The method used in this study is a survey method. The results obtained from this study were Found 16 bacterial isolates on the Biological Education and Research Forest floor where 9 isolates were in a shaded area and 7 isolates were in a unshaded area. There were 12 isolates from 16 isolates that have positive cellulolytic ability with a variety of clear zone sizes, where there are 8 isolates that the size of the clear zone is quite large (SBS 1, SBS 2, SBS 6, SBS 7, UBS 4, UBS 5, UBS 6, UBS 7) and 4 isolates produce very small clear zones (SBS 3, SBS 4, UBS 2, UBS 3). Characteristics of bacterial isolates obtained were 2 gram-positive coccus isolates with positive catalase test, 3 gram-negative coccus isolates with positive glucose test and 3 gram-negative bacil isolates with negative fructose test. Key word : Bacteria, cellulase, cellulose, cellulolytic, enzymes
