Abstract

This research aims to provide an overview of the oppression among Black people as reflected in Angie Thomas’ novel entitled The Hate U Give. The focus of the research is to anlyze kind of oppression among Black people that influence Starr’s survival. This research applies kind of oppression developed by Iris Young. The theory used in analyzing the novel is sociological approach by Alan Swingewood and. The analysis is explained by a descriptive method. The results of this study draw the following conclusions. Angie Thomas criticizes social conditions that revealed some social problems, such as oppression which is divided into four parts: exploitation, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and violence. It also revealed the government needs to create attention to create peace among black people.
