Abstract

ABSTRACT This research explains the challenges faced by United Nation Populatiom Fund (UNFPA) in assisting Indian government to overcome the sex-selective abortion issue in India. Sex-selective abortion has caused a high imbalance to sex ratio at birth in India as well as increased gender discrimination cases. UNFPA has been helping India in sex-selective abortion issue since 2001, addressed several efforts, and established programs in accordance with the needs of Indian government, these are poured forth on Country Programme and puts on evaluation once in 5 years. This research deploys Country Programme 8 UNFPA - INDIA 2013-2017 in analyzing the topic in question, this consists of three indicators such as UNFPA, governmental institutions, and civil society synergize to adopt and implement policies to increase sex ratio at birth in India, UNFPA casts its support for Indian government in designing programs and communication strategy to balance child preference and prevent sex-selective abortion, and PC-PNDT Law implementation by the government and medical personnels. Research method being used is qualitative with analitical descriptive as the research type utilizing secondary data. In accordance with Country Programme 8 UNFPA India, research in question finds the challenges faced by UNFPA to help overcoming sex-selective abortion is the government itself.
