Abstract

In this program, the writer finds out that the hosts of the program use English better than the common Indonesian people. In other words we can say that they are able to communicate in English very well. Moreover, they are selected in a great television channel which requires employees who master in oral and written form of English with minimum standard TOEFL is 550. Then it will be qualified if we say that they are capable to use grammatical rules of English very well. Nevertheless, during the 30 minutes of airing “After Hours” program, the writer finds repetitions, stutters and pauses uttered by the hosts of the program. Based on Clark and Clark (1977) those phenomena, repetitions, stutters and pauses, are included as kinds of speech error. Thus, this fact marks up writer minds, if mastering English is the requirement for joining the companies, speech errors from the hosts found in the program of this famous television company will become an interesting matter to be analyzed. Since there are huge numbers of research dealing with speech error, especially those concerning in the pattern of the error or the grammatical errors, the writer tries to do a different one by analyzing the speech errors based on the psychological matters. The writer assumes large influences toward the planning and execution of spoken language is related with this problem. Then, Hopefully this research will give a great contribution to psycholinguistic research development in English Department especially in giving an important source of information for understanding the complex matters in language production.
