Abstract

Dragonflies are insects important in agricultural ecosystems. Dragonflies have a role as a predator, both in the form of a naiad and adults and feed on certain types of pests on rice plants. The objective of the research was to study the diversity of dragonflies (Odonata) in the fields of organic and conventional systems of rice in Padang Pariaman Regency. A survey was conducted using purposive random sampling. Samples were collected by using water and swinging insect nets. The results showed that the dragonflies (Odonata) found on the site of the research consisted of 5 family, 15 species with a total of 354 individuals. Odonata found in organic systems rice fields consisted of 5 families, 15 species and 275 individuals, while the ones in conventional system of rice fields were 3 familes, 10 species, 79 individuals. Diversity and equity were higher on the organic system of rice field 2.47 and equity 0.90 respectively, compared with conventional rice field with the value of diversity index 1.98 and equity index 0.82
