Abstract

Drug abuse in Indonesia is a very worrying problem, particularly among adolescents today are closer to the drug. The problem of drug abuse tend to show improvement, drug abuse generally aged 15-24 years, and is active in high school, because the teenager is undergoing changes of biological, psychological and social rapidly. Drug abuse is caused by various factors, including the level of stress. This study aimed to examine the relationship between stress levels with drug abuse of male students. The study design was cross-sectional. The entire population of male students at SMA Bukit Barisan Padang as many students in 316 and obtained a sample of 76 people were taken proporsionate stratified random sampling. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire on January 5 untill January 6, 2015 at SMA Bukit Barisan Padang . Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi-square test. The results showed less than half of respondents who had drug abus ( 39,5 % ) , the most stress experienced by respondents was middle stress ( 57,9 % ). The results of the statistical test showed there are significant association between stress levels with drug abuse of male students in SMA Bukit Barisan Padang with p = 0.015 ( p < 0.05 ). From the research that has been done to the school are advised to work closely with stakeholders to provide education about drugs and improving counseling and to students can to increase positive activities not to be involved in drug abuse.
