Abstract
Laryngoscopy and intubation are medical procedures that can cause cardiovascular turmoil such as tachycardia and hypertension. Opioid drugs are administered to prevent these events. Among the opioids, medications with rapid onset such as fentanyl have been commonly used. Recently, another opioid used to prevent intubation-related cardiovascular responses is oxycodone. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of oxycodone in preventing cardiovascular turmoil in patients undergoing laryngoscopy intubation for general anesthesia at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. This research is a true experimental study with pretest posttest with control group design. Total of twenty subjects were divided into two groups: the control group (K) and the treatment group (O). Initial records of systole blood pressure (SBP), diastole blood pressure (DBP) and heart rate (HR) of the subjects were performed as basaline (Tb). In the Oxycodone grup subjects were given Oxycodone 0,2 mg/kg, Propofol 2 mcg/kg, Sevofluran 2 vol% and Rokuronium Bromide 0.5 mg/kg. In the control grup oxycodone was replaced by fentanyl 2 mcg/kg. Then preoxygenation is done for ± three minutes. Shortly before laryngoscopy intubation, pretest data (T0) is recorded, after Endotracheal Tube is installed, the first minute (T1), third minute (T3), and fifth minute (T5) are recorded as posttest data. Overall, there were no significant differences between SBP, DBP and HR in control group and oxycodone group at all times, except for SBP at T5 (p=0.037) and DBP at T5 (p=0.039). The conclusion of this study is the oxycodone works effectively in preventing cardiovascular turmoil in patients undergoing laryngoscopy intubation for general anesthesia at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. Keywords: Oxycodone, cardiovascular turmoil, laryngoscopy intubation, general anesthesia.
