Abstract

The Forest Management Unit (FMU) of 50 Kota District, established by the Indonesian government has a duty in managing the existing area in 50 Kota District, West Sumtera, Indonesia. In the West Sumatra, the local people (Minangkabau) are renowned for land management (ulayat land) that still adheres to customary systems. Land use between the Forester with local communities, has different ways and management. The objectives of this research were to identification and attempts to describe the land use in JorongLandai, NagariHarau, 50 Kota District, West Sumatra, by local communities and FMU of 50 Kota District and, describes its impact on the diversity of plants in JorongLandai. This research uses descriptive qualitative method and calculating plant diversity (Shannon diversity index). In JorongLandai, local communities use land as settlements (13 Ha), rice fields (20.32 Ha) and Gambir fields (164.7 ha.Local communities have local wisdom in the form of IkanLarangan and sacred trees. Whereas the FMU of 50 Kota District, using land in JorongLandai as a protected forest area (880.33 Ha). Different land use resulted in overlapping area of 52,71 Ha. Therefore, the classify the area in JorongLandai into three areas (ulayat land, protected forest and overlap areas) that aims to see the impact of plant diversity in areas with different use of land. In the ulayat land area, it has an index of plant diversity at the stake level of 2,526, the pole level of 2,597 and the tree level of 2,072. Overlapping areas, no stake plant level found, pole level diversity index 2,637 and 1,384 of tree level. In protected forest area, there is a diversity level index of 2,042, pole level 2,088 and tree level 1,949. From the index obtained, the average of plant diversity in JorongLandai, are medium-scale. The unclear status ownership security in the JorongLandai makes overlapping land use and the lack of plant diversity. Keywords: Land Use, Plant Diversity, Local Communities, FMU of 50 Kota District
