Abstract

A study on the effect of slope levels on the physical properties of Inceptisol planted with sweet potatoes in Baso was conducted from August 2019 to January 2020. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of slope levels on continonsly cultivated sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.). This research was conducted using a survey method, where soil samples were taken at three slope levels purposive sampling namely 3-8%, 8-15%, and > 25% at depths of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm with three replications. The soil physical properties were analyzed at the Soil Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University, Padang. Parameters analyzed included soil texture, OM, BD, TSP, permeability, and soil aggregate stability. The results showed that differences in slope level showed differences in the characteristics of physical properties in the soil. The best soil physical properties were found at ≥ 8-15% slope level. This was indicated by the high organic matter (4.38 and 3.75%) content, BD (0.97 and 1.03 g / cm3) and total soil pore (62.50 and 59.92%) was in the medium criteria, soil texture classified into silt and silt loam class, soil permeability was rather fast (7.30 and 6.65 cm/hour), and soil aggregate stability index is less stable and not stable (45.42 and 37.31) for 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm soil depth respectively. In general, the physical properties of the soil on 0-20 cm layer were better than the 20-40 cm layer at each slope under sweet potato cultivation.
