Abstract

Fe is one of the essential nutrients needed by plants in small amounts. Fe poisoning in rice plants causes inhibition of metabolism and damage to rice plants which are characterized by rusty leaves. The research was carried out at the Tissue Culture Laboratory, Seed Technology Laboratory and Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University, Padang, West Sumatra in May to July 2019. This research used a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two factors. The first factor is brown rice consisting of 10 genotypes namely TalangBabungo, Sigambiri, PidoManggih, LabuhBaru, Balingka, Situjuah, Banuhampu, PulenTalao, LadangTalamao and Sikarajuik. The second factor is FeSO4 concentration which consists of 4 levels, namely 0 ppm, 250 ppm, 500 ppm and 750 ppm. The data were statistically analyzed by the F test at 5% level and if the F count was greater than the F table of 5%, it was followed by the Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) of 5%. The results showed that there were interactions between the 10 genotypes of local red rice in West Sumatra with Fe stress concentrations during the initial growth period on plant height and root dry weight. Brown rice genotypes that were tolerant of the highest Fe stress concentration of 750 ppm in canopy dry weight variables were Balingka and Situjuah genotypes, while in root dry weight variables were Sigambiri and LadangTalamao genotypes.
