Abstract

This study seeks to analyze the role of UNICEF in preventing cases of women trafficking in India through the Country Program Action Plan 2010-2017. It’s importance is due to patriarchal culture that is presented in the social fabric of Indian society and the high level of poverty which also drives the trafficking of girls. In addition, this program is also the result of collaboration between the Indian government and UNICEF in preventing trafficking of girls in India. This study uses the concept of norm diffusion to answer research questions, while this research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach. The results of this study show the role of UNICEF in India as a forum to dramatize the idea of child protection to Indian society, as well as to socialize the ideas and norms of protecting girls to the Indian government, and then, the rules and policies are in line with these ideas and norms. Although in the end, the role of UNICEF in preventing trafficking cases for girls did not get results that were targeted. But, the level of trade that occurred were fluctuative, it were increased and decreased, so the government and UNICEF saw that actually this program was not effective because of the increase in trade figures in the last year before the completion of this program.
