Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the financial added value of artificial insemination (AI) by smallholder beef cattle farming in the sub Koto Parik Gadang Diateh, Solok Selatan Regency. The research method is a survey with smallholder beef cattle farming as research object. The total sample of this research is 40 respondents, consisting of 20 respondents from the breeders with AI Md 20 respondents without AI. The Sampling Technique used in this research is Quota Sampling. The Method of analysis for identified the influence of AI application on income increasing of smallholder beef cattle farmina was Incremental Revenue Cost Ratio. The result of the research indicated that reproduction performance of the breeder with AI was better than the breeders witaout AI, this can be seen from : 1) The age of first marriage, 2) The first post partum mating, and 3) Calving Interval. The application of AI can really increasing the breeder's income with the incremental revenue cost ratio value at 1,52 at Simental cattle on Farms and 1,37 at PO cattle on Farm. Net Farm Income of the breeder with AI can get profit is Rp 1.486.501,4 at Simental cattle on Farms and Rp 385.377,5 at PO cattle on Farms, but the breeders without AI at Simental cattle on Farms is Rp 834.693 and at PO cattle on Farms is negative at Rp 128.585. Family income in a year of the breeder at Simental cattle on Farm Md PO cattel on Farms with AI is Rp 3.672.100 and Rp 2.471.200, but the breeder at simental Cattel and PO cattel on Farm without AI is Rp 2.198.500 andKp 994.550. From this research can be concluded the the application of AI can increase Financial Value Added for smallholder in Koto Parik Gadang Diateh District, Solok Selatan Regency.
