Abstract

ABSTRACT This research analyzes the alterations of the intrinsic elements in Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe novel in its movie adaptation, The Wild Life (2016), based on the family-friendly concept and philosophical values implied in the novel and their changes in the film. This research employs a qualitative approach, complemented by a descriptive analysis method. This research focuses on the transformation of intrinsic elements between the Robinson Crusoe novel and its 2016 movie adaptation, examining the concept of family-friendly transformation and the shifts in philosophical values, while relating it to Linda Hutcheon's theory of adaptation. The research findings reveal a significant transformation in the narrative and philosophical implications of Robinson Crusoe in The Wild Life. The findings in this research will explain the same and different elements used in the adaptation, as well as the reasons for the partial or complete alteration of the novel's intrinsic aspects in the film adaptation. Keywords: Adaptation, Robinson Crusoe, The Wild Life, Transformation.
