Abstract
One of the many wastes found in the environment is textile industry waste. The waste can disrupt the ecosystem and cause harm to public health. This research studies the use of electrocoagulation method with iron electrode to reduce the level of Remazol Brilliant Blue textile dye. The parameters tested consisted of Remazol Brilliant Blue concentration, electrocoagulation time, voltage, electrode spacing, and pH. These parameters were used to determine the optimum conditions for Remazol Brilliant Blue removal measured using a UV-Visible Spectrophotometer (UV-Vis) at a wavelength of 587,8 nm. The optimum conditions for maximum removal were achieved at a dye concentration of 10 mg/L, electrocoagulation duration of 60 minutes, voltage of 5 V, distance between electrodes of 1 cm, and sample condition at pH 6. The dye removal efficiency was in the range of 63-98%, depending on the variation of process parameters used. Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) analysis was performed on pure Remazol Brilliant Blue dye coagulant before and after the electrocoagulation process. FTIR analysis was carried out on the coagulant of electrocoagulation results which showed a spectrum that had a spectrum similar to pure remazol brilliant blue.
