Abstract

This research is about the non-equivalence at word level in the subtitle of Yesterday movie. This research aims to analyze the types of non-equivalence at word level in the ST and TT, and the strategies used by the translator to solve the non-equivalence at word level in the movie subtitle. This research applied the qualitative approach. The data sources in this research are the English subtitles of Yesterday movie, the Indonesian subtitles of Yesterday movie, and Yesterday movie video. After collecting data, the data are analyzed using Baker’s theory of non-equivalence at word level and Baker’s theory on translation strategies. From the analysis, the types of non-equivalence at word level and the translation strategies used by the translator are identified. The result of this research shows that there are tive types of non-equivalence at word level in the subtitle of Yesterday movie which is solved by the translator using four types of translation strategies.
