Abstract
ABSTRACT Ahmad Zulfani, 2010822026, S1 Thesis. Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Andalas University, Padang, 2025. Title: COMMUNITY EATING CULTURE IN FULFILLING NUTRITION FOR THE FIRST 1,000 DAYS OF LIFE (HPK) AGE GROUP IN NAGARI TIGO KOTO SILUNGKANG, AGAM REGENCY, WEST SUMATRA. Supervisor I: Sri Meiyenti, S. Sos., M. Si. Supervisor II: Dra. Yunarti, M.Hum. The eating culture that has developed in the community of Nagari Tigo Koto Silungkang is one of the factors potentially contributing to stunting. Although the community’s nutritional knowledge is relatively good, feeding practices are not yet fully aligned with recommended guidelines. In particular, during the 1,000 Days of Life (HPK) period, dietary intake is still not optimal as expected. This condition is reflected in the persistence of stunting cases within the community. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document studies. The analysis is explained based on the community’s social conditions. The theoretical framework refers to Robert Lowie, a prominent anthropologist, who views eating culture as an integral part of social heritage learned and transmitted across generations. According to him, eating habits, food choices, and values attached to food are not natural instincts, but rather the result of social learning processes within society. Knowledge and practice play an important role in shaping eating culture. However, in practice, community knowledge often does not align with actual behavior. This research discusses how eating culture influences nutritional fulfillment in society. The study focuses on aspects of nutrition, food systems, beliefs and taboos, feeding practices, and adaptation to external influences. Through this, the eating culture in the community can be comprehensively described to obtain deeper research findings. Keywords: Eating Culture, Stunting, Nutritional Knowledge, Feeding Practices, 1,000 Days of Life (HPK), Nutritional Fulfillment.
