Abstract

Student engagement problem is lack of student involvement and student participation in learning activities, this problem still prevalent at SMAN 1 Kota Solok. One of the factors that influence student engagement is basic psychological needs that emphasizes the satisfaction of the basic fundamental needs (autonomy, competence, relatedness). The purpose of this research is seeing the influence of basic psychological needs toward student engagement in learning activities at SMAN 1 Kota Solok. Research methode used quantitative. Measuring student engagement used SEM MacArthur scales by reability scale, 0,927 and basic needs satisfaction in general scale reability 0,819. Total research sample is 275 student. Analyze techique used simple regression linear. 2 The result of this research showed p significant 0,000 < 0,05. Significant value approved that basic psychological needs influence toward student engagement in learning activities at SMAN 1Kota Solok. For the result, basic psychological needs have influence toward student engagement. In otherhand, R² value is 0,14 that showed basic psychological needs have influence contribution toward student engagement in the amount 14%. Based on that value above, the research hyphothesis is accepted.
