Abstract

Sexual harassment experienced by survivors in childhood has the negative impacts on adulthood. So that in the process of acceptance as an experienced that is part of the survivors requires a long time. This study is a qualitative study, using a phenomenological study aimed to look at how self-acceptance process of young adult survivors who experienced sexual harassment in their childhood. The data were obtained from interviews. The procedure of subjects selection used was from purposive approach by online survey. Subjects who were willing to participate in this study were four survivors, two young adult women and two young adult men who experienced sexual harassment in childhood. The technique of data analysis used in this study was thematic analysis by coding the results of verbatim interview transcripts. This study concluded that all of subjects could pass the stages of self-acceptance process after they were entirely comfortable at the stages before. Self-acceptance process after experiencing sexual harassment that was shown by each subjects in this study was the result of interaction among the memory condition, personality, experiences since their childhood, and their own volition to make a change. There some factors making self-acceptance process on subjects, the supporting ones and inhibiting ones. Those factors came from internal side and external side.
