Abstract
This study investigates the impact of strategic agility on business sustainability in next-generation family business, using the Ampalu Raya Padang Restaurant as a case study. In the context of Padang’s vibrant culinary sector, where family-owned Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in the local economy, the research explores how strategic agility enables long-term sustainability in a volatile, uncertain,, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environments. Employing a qualitative approach, the research utilitizes in-depth interviews with owners and employees, complemented by secondary data analysis, operationalizing strategic agility through strategic sensitivity, resource fluidity, and leadership unity, while measuring business sustainability across dimensions such as income, growth, product quality, competitiveness, and environmental conditions. Findings reveal that Ampalu Raya Restaurant demonstrates significant strategic agility, postively impacting its sustainability, evident in proacive market observation leading to timely innovations, flexible resource management ensuring adaptability, and open communication fostering leadership unity. However, challenges in succession planning and limited focus on environmental sustainability were identified, suggesting the need for stronger integration of sustainbility practices. In conclusion, this study underscores the significance of strategic agility as a key driver of business sustainability in next-generation family business, providing insights into how such businesses can leverage agility to ensure their legacy and contribute to local economic development.
