Abstract

Double Acting Friction Stir Welding (DAFSW) is a variation of the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) welding method equipped with two independently rotating pins in one device, expected to overcome the limitations of FSW while improving the efficiency and quality of double-sided welding. This study aims to evaluate the effect of tool rotation speed variation on the stress distribution and hardness value joint of AA1100 aluminum alloy. In this study, DAFSW simulations were performed on AA1100 aluminum plates using ANSYS Workbench 24.R2 with tool offset parameters of 5 mm, a tilt angle of 2º, and variations in the lower tool rotation speed (1000, 1200, and 1500 rpm), while the upper tool rotation speed remained at 1500 rpm, in the hope of producing more optimal mechanical properties and microstructure. The results showed that the highest stress distribution was found at the lower tool speed variation of 1500 rpm with relatively stable stress values. The lowest stress distribution was found at the lower tool speed of 1000 rpm with a less stable stress distribution value. The highest hardness value was found at the lower tool speed of 1000 rpm with a hardness value of 40 VHN. The lowest hardness value was found at the lower tool speed of 1500 rpm with a hardness value of 32 VHN..
