Abstract
This study analyzes the word formation process in English slang in a movie script entitled Jennifer's Body. This study aims to determine the word formation processes forming slang in Jennifer's Body movie script and the productive processes in forming the slang. Qualitative descriptive analysis was conducted on 52 slang in the word forms found in the movie script. The data were collected using purposive sampling and note-taking techniques. Data analysis was conducted by applying Lieber's (2009) theory of the types of the word formation process to determine the occurring word formation process. A tree diagram was used to display the analysis visually. To determine the productive word formation process, this study used the method of calculating the hapax legomenon of each word formation process. The results show that there are 7 types of word formation processes that form slang in Jennifer's Body movie script: affixation (27%), compounding (23%), coinage (31,1%), initialism (2,7%), clipping (10,8%), internal stem change (4,1%), and reduplication (1,4%). Coinage is the most frequent process, with 23 occurrences (31.1%), and it is also the most productive word formation process, with 18 hapaxes. Coinage as the formation process with the highest frequency of occurrence and the most productive shows the creative, innovative, and fresh language of Jennifer's Body script that suits the way teenagers communicate.
