Abstract

The application of the Wavelet Multiresolution Analysis (MRA) method in this study aims to identify various types of faults occurring in a 150 kV transmission line with high speed and accuracy, addressing complex protection challenges in electrical transmission networks. MRA ability to decompose signals across multiple frequency scales and resolutions facilitates the effective identification of diverse fault types. Simulations were conducted using ATP and Matlab software, modeling the transmission system between the Maninjau Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) and the Pauh Limo Substation (GI), subjected to fault types such as single-phase-to-ground, double-phase-to-ground, double-phase, three-phase, and lightning faults. To enhance the accuracy of fault identification, variations in fault distance and impedance were applied in the simulations. Based on an analysis of simulation results that includes calculating average approximation coefficients from the MRA method, it was concluded that this method can effectively identify and classify all fault types studied, meeting the accuracy criteria established for transmission system protection.
