Abstract
Capo (Blumea balsamifera (L.) DC.) is a plant that can be used as a traditional medicine derived from the Asteraceae family. The distinctive aroma possessed by capo leaves indicates the presence of essential oil content. In this research, essential oil from capo leaves has been isolated by hydrodestillation method and obtained yellow oil with a total oil of 11.7 mL with a density of 0.9787 g/mL. Determination of the chemical components of the isolated essential oil was carried out by Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectra (GC-MS) method. GC-MS results showed the presence of 35 compounds characterized by the presence of 35 MS spectrum peaks which consisted of hydrocarbon monoterpenes, oxygenated monoterpenes, hydrocarbon sesquiterpenes, oxygenated sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes with three main compounds namely Camphor (57.24%), (E)-Farnesol (6.75%), (E)-Dihydrocarvone (5.52%). Insecticidal activity tests include preliminary tests with 3 concentration levels (0, 0.25, 0.5%) and further tests with 5 concentration levels (0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5%) with the leaf dipping method. Parameters observed included larval mortality, antifeedant activity and larval development time. The results of the insecticidal activity test of capo leaf essential oil showed that it has the potential to inhibit the growth of Crocidolomia pavonana F larvae by with the LC50 value obtained at 2.416 %, antifeedant activity of 65.73% and can inhibit the length of larval development for 1,14 days to reach instar 4 when compared to the control.
