Abstract

Red, White & Royal Blue is a novel written by Casey McQuiston in March 2019. This novel is about Alex Claremont-Diaz one of the main characters, trying to find his sexual identity since his meeting with Henry. I will use the theory of cultural identity by Stuart Hall and homosexual identity formation by Vivienne Cass which consists of six stages LGBTQ people have probably been through in their lives regarding how to finally accept their true identity. The stages are identity confusion, identity comparison, identity tolerance, identity acceptance, identity pride, and identity synthesis. The purpose of this research is on how Alex's character deals with pressures in his journey through homosexual identity formation. This research is conducted as a library research on qualitative method. The data will be provided from dialogues, sentences, and words in the novel itself.
