Abstract

RESISTANCE OF SOME TOMATO VARIETIES (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) TO ROOT-KNOT NEMATODE (Meloidogyne spp.) ABSTRACT Meloidogyne spp. is one of the nematodes that cause root-knot disease in tomato plants. This disease can reduce tomato plant production by up to 68.3%. The use of resistant plant varieties is one of the disease control techniques that can suppress the development of root-knot caused by nematodes. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of resistance of several tomato varieties (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) to root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) and tomato plant growth. The research was conducted at the Phytopathology Laboratory of the Plant Protection Study Program and Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University, Padang. This research was conducted with experimental methods using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments consisted of 6 tomato varieties namely Selena, Lisa F1, Jamin, Warani, Panzer, TM Blazer. The results of the research showed that 6 tomato varieties had different levels of resistance to Meloidigyne spp., the highest level of resistance was only to moderate susceptibility which occurred in the Lisa F1 variety, the criteria for susceptible resistance were found in the Warani, Selena, and Jamin varieties, as well as two Other varieties, namely Panzer and Tm Blazer, have very vulnerable resistance criteria. Keywords : root-knot, Meloidogyne spp., resistance, tomato
