Abstract

This research aims to analyze France's efforts and its interests in overcoming ship piracy in the Aden Gulf. France acted as the first country to carry out escort operations to protect UN humanitarian aid ships to Africa through ALCYONE operations. This research uses the conceptual framework of national interests according to the formula of Donald E. Nutcherlein which is described based on aspects of defense interest, economic interest, world order interest, and ideological interest which are classified into levels of importance namely survival issues, vital issues, major issues, and peripheral issues. This research use qualitative methods in the process of collecting research data. The findings of this research are that actions taken by France are based on the importance of securing oil trade lines and the tuna industry which are threatened by piracy. While other interests that underlie French actions are of interest to secure their influence in Djibouti from Chinese influence. Keywords : France, Aden Gulf, interests, piracy.
