Abstract

Due to recent increases in fuel oil (BBM) and electricity prices, it has become increasingly expensive for communities to obtain water through commercial pumps. One of them is Koto Indah Village in Nagari Simawang. Therefore, ideas or innovations are needed to produce water without fuel or electricity. Of the many ideas and innovations, a suitable technique for raising water without electricity and fuel was found, namely the Ram Hydraulic Pump (HIDRAM). Research and development institutes in the country have conducted several community assistance activities by installing water pumping units in villages that need them. Problems with these installations can arise when the system is exposed to outdoor conditions that have never been encountered before or when determining the pump height and capacity that should be achieved in a hydraulic pump installation for optimization of the pump installation and system efficiency. The selection of the right pump specification for the piping system on site will determine the efficiency of the pump. B2PTTG-LIPI developed a hydraulic pump with a specification of 2 in. x (0.5–1.0) in. and 4 in. x (80–100) cm air hose. An important comparison between hydraulic pumps and commercial pumps is that hydraulic pumps require low production and operating costs compared to commercial pumps that require fuel oil or electricity for each function.
