Abstract
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a disease characterized by progressive airway limitations and is associated with an inflammatory response. Exacerbation is a worsening of symptoms from previous symptoms. The main risk factor for COPD is smoking. Smoking is a bad activity where the burning process of tobacco whose smoke or gas is inhale, in cigarettes there are dangerous and addictive substances which are dangerous for COPD patients because they can cause worsening or exacerbations. This study was done to find out the relationship between smoking and exacerbations of COPD in Dr. RSUP. M. DJamil Padang on January 2018-December 2018. This type studied was done by using observational analytical method with cross sectional design. The study was conducted at the medical record section of Dr. M. Djamil Hospital Padang. The subjects of this study were patients with exacerbations of COPD medical record with a total sample of 62 people. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test.
