Abstract

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth) is a type of shrub that contains essential oils used in cosmetics and medicine. Increasing the propagation of patchouli plants is necessary to meet the demand for patchouli essential oil. This research aimed to determine the optimal IBA concentration for inducing roots in patchouli plants in vitro. This study was conducted from May 2023 to July 2023 at the Tissue Culture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. The research was designed in a Completely Randomized Design consisting of 6 treatments: 0 ppm (control), 0.2 ppm, 0.4 ppm, 0.6 ppm, 0.8 ppm, and 1 ppm IBA (Indole Butyric Acid), with 4 replications. Data were analyzed using the F-test at a 5% significance level, followed by DMRT at a 5% level if significant. Results showed that 0.8 ppm IBA was the best concentration for root formation percentage (92.50%), while the 0 ppm (control) treatment produced the highest number of roots (6.40 roots). No significant differences were found for the best root emergence time among treatments.
