Thesis Title: Traditions of Violence Among Students Study: Brawl between Padang 5 State Vocational High School students and Padang 1 State Vocational School. Number of Pages 125. Supervisor I Dr. Bob Alfiandi, M.Si., Supervisor II Dr. Maihasni, M.Si. Data recorded at the Padang City Police Department (Polres) from 2019 to 2022 shows that there were 90 cases of brawls in the city of Padang. One of the brawls that often occurs in Padang City is student brawls. Student brawls in Padang City mostly involve students from vocational schools. Vocational school students who often engage in brawls are students from SMK Negeri 5 Padang and SMK Negeri 1 Padang. In 2022, a student brawl between the two schools went viral on social media and it was discovered that these two schools had been enemies for a long time and made brawls between the two schools a tradition that was passed down from generation to generation. Uniquely, these two schools were originally one unit under the name STM Negeri Padang. The Purpose of this research is to determine the causes of brawls between students at SMK Negeri 5 Padang and SMK Negeri 1 Padang. As well as to describe the process of traditional brawling between students at SMK Negeri 5 Padang and SMK Negeri 1 Padang using the Social Construction theory (internalization, objectivation and externalization) from Peter L. Berger. The research approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. The informant selection technique used was purposive and snowballing sampling. Data collection was carried out using in-depth interview techniques, uninvolved observation, and document collection. The results of this research show that the factors causing brawls between students at SMK Negeri 5 Padang and SMK Negeri 1 Padang are due to competition for prestige and self-esteem, group solidarity, revenge, provocation and ridicule, not channeling students' talents and interests, and lack of firm enforcement. law. Meanwhile, the process of traditional brawling between students at the two schools occurred due to the process of internalizing knowledge of the brawling tradition which came from family, friends (gangs), social media and society. The internalized knowledge of brawl traditions is then objectified by brawlers with the following considerations: forms of group solidarity, self-existence, and the manifestation of fear, as well as weak law enforcement. After this knowledge is objectified, the perpetrator then externalizes the tradition of student brawls in the form of taking a role by maintaining this tradition by participating in student brawls.
