Abstract
The Siam orange var. Gunuang Omeh (Jesigo) is a distinguished local cultivar from Lima Puluh Kota Regency, the Province of West Sumatra. This variety is prevalent throughout the region, especially at Gunuang Omeh and Bukit Barisan Districts. The contrasting topographies of these districts might result in phenotypic diversity among the orange plants. Consequently, efforts in characterization are essential to identify phenotypic variations and relationships among the Siam oranges in these areas. Plant characterization is crucial since the current Siam orange plantation have used introduced seedlings that are not accurately identified. A study, conducted from June to August 2023, employed a survey methodology that included exploration, interviews, and plant characterization activities. A total of 55 accessions from four orchards across both districts were the subject of this research. Observations focused on the qualitative and quantitative traits of the fruit, seeds, flowers, stems, and leaves. The collected data were analyzed descriptively and presented in tables and images. A similarity analysis, performed using the PBSTAT-CL 2.1.1 software, was displayed as a dendrogram. The findings revealed a range of phenotypic characteristics, including several previously undocumented traits. These traits were prevalent in nearly all accessions, indicating a high similarity percentage of 78 to 100% among the Siam oranges in both districts. Despite discovering new traits, the plants predominantly retained the characteristics of the Siam orange var. Gunuang Omeh.
