Abstract

This Study aims to determine the effect of the tourism sector in West Sumatra on poverty. The independent variables used in the tourism sector are the number of domestic tourist arrivals, the number of accommodations, and the number of restaurants which influence poverty as the dependent variable. Based on the other study, presented by Hawkin and Mann which stated the tourism sector is one of the strategies to reduce poverty. The method of research using panel data analysis. The research estimation results showed that the number of domestic tourists and the number of accommodations have an insignificant effect on poverty, while the variable number of restaurants has a significant negative effect on the number of poor people.
