Abstract

Background: Dental anxiety is an unpleasant situation during dental treatments, often experienced by pediatric dentists due to a lack of knowledge about oral and dental health. Purpose: This study was to determine the relationship between dental anxiety in children aged 7 to 12 and their knowledge of oral and dental health. Methods: The study was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design, involving 25 children aged 7 to 12, selected using a purposive sampling technique, and using a CFSS-DS dental anxiety questionnaire with 15 questions and 19 knowledge questions. Data were analyzed using the Fisher Exact test. Results: The study showed that 20 children (80%) have been educated about oral health, while 18 (72%) indicated low dental anxiety, with a p-value of 0.012. Conclusion: There is significant relationship between children's knowledge about dental health and their dental anxiety. Children with high knowledge tend to have lower dental anxiety due to their understanding of the treatment procedures they will undergo when visiting the dentist.
