Abstract

This study uses aluminum chloride (AlCl3) which is nephrotoxic so that it can damage renal tubular cells, which can interfere with kidney function. The damage caused by AlCl3 can be overcome by human Wharton jelly mesenchymal stem cell (HWJMSC) which is currently being develop as a therapy for tissue and cell repair. Because it has repair and anti-inflammatory agen against body tissues and cells. This experimental study used 18 rats as experimental animals divided into three groups. The first group was not given anything (negative control). The Second group was induced with AlCl3 (positive control). The third group was induced with AlCl3 and then given HWJMSC (treatment). Renal tubular cells damage was analyzed using One way ANOVA test then continued with Post Hoc test Bonferroni. In the data obtained, the avarege percentage of cell damage was 40,71% (negative control), 72,89% (positife control), and 57,58% (treatment). Data analysis showed significant difference between the positive control group and the negative control group, but no significant difference between the treatment group and positive also negative control group. The conclusion of this study is that HWJMSC has a role in repairing renal tubular cell damage but not optimal enough. Keywords: Renal tubular cells, aluminum chloride (AlCl3), human Wharton jelly mesenchymal stem cell (HWJMSC)
