Abstract

Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is a common endocrine malignancy with relatively good prognosis. Radioactive Iodine (RAI) therapy after total thyroidectomy is the main modality therapy for DTC patient. The study aims to assess the effectiveness of administered RAI to DTC patient. This study was literature review of 26 research articles published between 2018 – 2023. The database sources were used Pubmed, Elsevier, CENTRAL, and Google Scholar. The articles were selected based on predetermined eligibility criteria. The literature review from all 26 articles include the type of histopathology of DTC patient treated with RAI. 19/26 articles inform the amount of dosage given on RAI therapy. There were 18/26 articles stating regional lymph node involvement, while 6/26 articles assessed distant lymph node metastasis in DTC patient that got RAI therapy. 13/26 articles also assessed the recurrence rate after RAI therapy, where 12/26 articles assessed the patient survival rate. Radioactive iodine therapy can decrease recurrence rate and metastasis, and improve survival rate.
