Abstract
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is a cancer that affects white blood cells. NHL treatment involves combination chemotherapy with Cyclophosphamide, Doxorubicin, Vincristine, and Prednisone. Chemotherapy can cause nausea and vomiting, which can disrupt treatment and reduce patients' quality of life. This study aims to investigate the pattern of antiemetic use, the appropriateness of antiemetics according to the emetogenic risk of combination chemotherapy drugs, and the relationship between the appropriateness of antiemetic doses and RINVR (Rhodes Index Nausea Vomiting and Retching) scores. This study was conducted on 30 NHL patients receiving combination chemotherapy. Data were collected through telephone interviews and medical records of patients. The RINVR score was used to assess the severity of nausea and vomiting. The Mann Whitney statistical test was used to compare RINVR scores in patients with and without nausea and vomiting. The normality test was used to see the distribution of RINVR scores. Patients with nausea and vomiting had higher acute and delayed RINVR scores than patients without nausea and vomiting. The distribution of RINVR scores was not normal. There was no significant relationship between antiemetic use, the appropriateness of antiemetics according to the emetogenic risk of combination chemotherapy drugs, and the appropriateness of antiemetic doses with RINVR scores. Combination chemotherapy with emetogenic drugs still causes nausea and vomiting even though appropriate antiemetics are given. Further research is needed to determine other factors that influence nausea and vomiting in NHL patients receiving combination chemotherapy.
