Abstract

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common infection in the world. Various factors are known to play a role in increasing a person's risk of developing a UTI, such as genetics, gender, age, and etcetera. This study aims to determine the relationship between risk factors and the incidence of urinary tract infections in adults at M. Djamil General Hospital in 2019-2021. This research is an analytical observational study with a case control study design using medical record data from the M. Djamil Hospital Medical Records Installation for 2019-2021. The samples obtained amounted to 120 samples (60 samples of UTI noncomplicata patients and 60 samples of nonUTI patients). Univariate test results showed that the sample of UTI patients in adults was dominated by the late elderly group (33.3%), female (51.7%), high school education (50.0%), had a history of diabetes mellitus (60,0%), and history of hypertension (61.7%). Bivariate tests showed that age (p=0.002), gender (p=0.009), history of hypertension (p=0.017), and diabetes mellitus (p=0.020) had a significant relationship with the incidence of UTI in adults, while education level had no significant relationship (p=0.248) on the incidence of UTI in adults at RSUP M. Djamil in 2019- 2021. The odds ratio values for female gender (2.940), history of hypertension (2.588), and history of diabetes mellitus (3.500). This study concluded that age, gender, history of diabetes mellitus, and hypertension are risk factors that have a significant relationship to the incidence of UTI in adults, while education level does not have a significant relationship. Women have a risk of experiencing UTI 2.9 times higher than men, a history of hypertension has a risk 2.94 times higher than without hypertension, and a history of diabetes mellitus has a risk 3.5 times higher than without diabetes mellitus.
