Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the factors that influence university accounting student’s about their career choices. In order to determine these reasons, a questionnaires survey has been employed. There are differences in views between accounting students who choose career as public accountant, company accountant, educators accountant and government accountant. It also analyzed their option for the accounting profession by considering the salary factor, profession recognition, professional training, social value, work environtment, security and availability of occupation. The data were collected using questionnaires directly distributed to them while they were still in university with a sample of 96 respondents. The data were analyzed using One-way ANOVA. This type of research is a survey study from the students majoring in accounting in Andalas University and Eka Sakti University undergraduate students with the criteria is still active as a students major in accounting. This study also use the SPSS version 19 software. Regarding the influential factors in this study, it can be concluded that overall there are differences in views that accounting students who are seen from the career desires of accountant. The result of analysis showed that there are differences in students perception of career selection in terms of salary factors, professional training namely training before work, profession recognition is an opportunity to thrive, social values opportunity to interact with others, work environtment, security and availability of occupation as a factors that influence the students to choose their career in future company.
