Abstract

Households are the most significant contributors to organic waste, so it needs to be processed, one of them is composting. Composting can be accelerated by using an activator. This study aims to analyze the process of maturity, quality, and quantity of household food waste composting. Composting using the Takakura Method which is practical, clean, odorless with addition of Local Microorganisms (MOL) of golden snail pests, papaya waste, a mixture of golden snail pests and papaya waste, and Effective Microorganisms 4 (EM4). Identify bacteria contained in each variation of MOL and compost. Composting was performed in duplo with five variations, namely: variation with the addition of golden snail pests MOL (variation A), the addition of papaya waste MOL (variation B), the addition of a mixture of golden snail pests and papaya waste MOL (variation C), the addition of EM4 (Variation D), and without addition of activator (variation E). Identification of bacteria by looking at the morphological and physiological characteristics and referring to Manual for The Identification of Medical Bacteria book. The results showed that the maturity and quality of all compost variations have complied with compost standards according to SNI 19-7030-2004. Variation C is the best variation based on the scoring system, with the fastest composting time of 12 days and a compost yield was 4.03 kg from 9.31 kg of initial weight of compost raw material, reduction rate is 56.71%. The results of the identification of dominant bacteria in composting are Bacillus sp. and Corynebacterium sp. for MOL mixture of gold snail pests and papaya waste.
